Midnight Apero is a nouveau swing band in the Poitou-Charentes bridging generations, cultures, and tastes with their unique treatments of popular songs for your event or venue. It was conceived in the Cafe Flore in Chalais where Paul and Justin had a pow-wow to discuss their musical aspirations over coffee. News of their search for a vocalist reached Dielle (it didn’t travel far; she lived 10 minutes away) who was excited by their vision and had the vox to flesh it out. Tim answered the not-so-silently whispered prayers for a bass player after MA starting gigging. They enjoy sharing spontaneous fits of laughter and the joy that come with good music and good friends.
That is some ice cold kismet!
Justin Burley (Drums/Backing Vocal/Sound/ DJ)
Justin moved to France 10 years ago and is originally from Hastings, East Sussex, now based near Chalais with his partner and 4 big dogs. Though he also dabbles in bass guitar, he has been playing drums for many years in different bands and prefers drumming. With a passion for music, Justin is a popular wedding DJ with his business Crystal Beats and thus provides all the band’s equipment and helps us sound great. He’s a computer technician as well. Check out his website.
Paul Griseri (Keys/Vocals)
Paul comes from London, and now lives in Charente Maritime. Until recently he was in the successful covers band The Monday Night Project. When in the UK he played in jazz and blues outfits as well as playing solo piano in bars and restaurants, at one point being resident pianist at the Canterbury Festival Club. He has played with, and been musical director for, several amateur dramatic events, and was also composer in residence for summer schools for children in London. He is a retired university teacher.
Dielle (Vocals/Reluctant Percussion/Dramatic and Magical Arts)
With a “bit of everything” background, Dielle hails from several US cities: Asheville, North Carolina where she was in several bands including the funky 5th World Radio, Americana-rock of Disparate Measures, and the experimental/ambient Shapeshifter and the Pure Heart Ensemble with jazz musician Richard Schulman; Kissimmee, Florida where she sang with a 14-piece jazz band as well as a gospel choir; and Albuquerque, NM where she worked for one of the largest musical theatre companies in the country. She teaches yoga and meditation. Visit her website at DielleCiesco.com.
Tim Beaton (Bass)
Tim is the latest addition to Midnight Apero. Tim Beaton, that is! He comes from London (England!) and learned the violin at a slightly too late age to ever have become a great player! He picked up bass and guitar along the way, with a teeny bit of keyboards, too.
He’s now living in France, with 4 cats. (“That’s right, I love cats. And dogs, too!) He’s a Virgo and loves a nice glass of red wine, sunsets, and good food.
